Tamil Nadu govt to commence virtual treatment for COVID-19 patients: Health minister
The Tamil Nadu government has planned to offer virtual treatments through house isolation to Covid-19 patients who have received a dose of vaccination and have been influenced by the Omicron variant, Minister of Health MA Subramanian said on Sunday. Virtual care will include omicron affected individuals who have not received vaccination but ‘asymptomatic’. They will be under constant monitoring by the medical team, the Minister of Health and the welfare of the family told Chennai.
Subramanian spoke to reporters after examining a medical camp at Chennai as part of the 17th Mega Vaccination camp detained through 50,000 vaccination camps throughout the state. “When there is an increase in the case affected by Omicron (on Tamil Nadu), vaccinated patients affected by Omicron will be offered treatment under house isolation and those who have not been vaccinated and asymptomatic will be placed under constant monitoring by the team. Only those who need hospitalization will be hospitalized for care, he said. According to the State Health Department, Tamil Nadu has officially stated 121 Omicron cases on Saturday.
Subramanian claims they are infected with the omicron variant mostly negative tests after three days, and only need five days of treatment. “It has been planned to monitor them under house isolation (after they left the post-recovery hospital),” he said. Noting that medical infrastructure in Tamil Nadu has been strengthened, he said the department has notified the management of Victoria Hostel in the city, to empty a place to prepare a bed to treat Covid-19 patients. The hostel was converted into a covid treatment center last year when the second wave of transmission was at its peak in the state.
“Already facilities with 1,000 medical beds respectively, have been established in places such as Injambakkam, Manjambakkam … Likewise, 800 bed facilities will be arranged at the Cennai Trade Center in Nandambakkam,” Subramanian said.
