UP elections 2022: The BJP is strong but SP pockets may prove challenging in Phase-3

KARHAL, the assembly constituency in Mainpuri Regency Uttar Pradesh, is one of 42 seats that chose Non-Congress MLA in the election of the first assembly in the state in 1951-52.

In the next 16 elections, Karhal chose MLA non-Congress and non-Bharatiya Janata at 14 times. The only two exceptions were 1980 and 2002. At other times, it chose the Candidate of the Jamajwadi Party or the previous Avatar such as Lok Dal, Janata Party, or Janata Dal.

The head of the Jamajwadi Party Akhilesh Yadav has chosen this chair, considered safe because of the history of its election, to enter the Assembly of the State this time. According to some estimates, Yadavs, the influential back class group (OBC), contributed nearly 50 percent of the election population in this assembly constituency.

Karhal is one of 59 seats spread across 16 districts in two regions – Bundelkhand and in and around Etawah – go to poll in the third phase on February 20. The constituency in and around Mainpuri-Etawah was a fortress of the Samajwadi Party until BJP violated it in 2014. And the Bundelkhand region has supported various parties in different elections. At present, BJP enjoys full domination there.

BJP’S DREAM RUN IN THE REGION SINCE 2014

In the 2012 assembly selection in this 59 seats, BJP won eight seats with a vote of 17 percent. However, there was a positive swing against gravity 27 percentage points in BJP’s votes in 2017. This chair reached 49. Calculation of the Sawajwadi Party Chair, on the other hand, down from 37 of these elections.
