Instagram sets default privacy for teens

Instagram announced that the “lacking” option under sensitive content control will be made default for teenagers. At present, the social media platform has the option to manage the content they want to watch on their feeds. Then in June, further limiting its contents seen by teenagers. The latest Instagram features will make it difficult for them to find content or accounts that have the potential to be sensitive in searching, exploring, hashtag pages, scrolls, bait recommendations, and recommended accounts.

Instagram, which is owned by Meta, said in a blog post that it is testing “a new way to encourage teenagers to update their safety and privacy settings”. Instagram sensitive content control has three options – “more”, “standard” and “less”. “Standard” is a state of default, and will prevent people from seeing some sensitive content and accounts. “More” allows people to see sensitive content and accounts, while “less” means less content than the default state. Instagram deactivated the “more” option for teenagers under 18 years due to security problems.
