UAW wants the Federal EV rebate only on vehicles built in the US
UAW continues against Ford and plans to move production of one of the models of electric vehicles from the US to Mexico. The latest efforts to thwart the Ford’s plan by UAW come in Union calling for tax incentives for electric vehicles to require vehicles to be built in the US. At present, the $ 7500 federal tax incentive for the purchase of electric vehicles does not require that the vehicle be built in the United States.
UAW said it was working with Biden and Congress administration to ensure the last legislation that expanded the subsidy of electric vehicles clearly that incentives were only available for vehicles built in the US. UAW said this plan would benefit US workers. Ford is not the only car maker engaged in the production of several eVs outside the US.
Recently, GM announced that it would invest $ 1 billion in Mexico and began building EV there in 2023. Debbie Dingell’s representative, a Democrat from Michigan, said that electric vehicles must be made in America, and no American dollars Must support the work sent to Mexico. Pres. Biden said last week that there was no reason American workers could not lead the world in the production of electric vehicles and battery production.
GM’s response to UAW and his plan to eliminate tax incentives in foreign-made electric vehicles stated that carmakers recently announced 9000 jobs and more than $ 9 billion in new electric vehicles or battery cell manufacturing facilities that will be located in Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee.
Ford previously announced that the EV to be built in Ohio would be assembled in Mexico. Ford did not offer comments about the UAW plan and there was no current indication that Biden will impose a rule called UAW.
