State Health Minister Veena George said nine out of 45 patients came from high-risk countries while 32 reached the country from low-risk countries. There were 16 cases of omicron in Ernakulam, nine in Thiruvananthapuram, six in Thrissur, five in Pathanamthitta, three each in Alappuzha and Kozhikode, two in Malappuram, and one at Wayanad. “One person from Thrissur and three of Alappuzha contracted a new variant through their contacts,” said the Ministry of Health in a press release.

Most of the people infected with Omicron come from UAE, Qatar and England. Other countries include France, Philippines, Turkey, Sweden, Kazakhstan, Ireland, Africa, Uganda and Ukraine. “Until now, a total of 50 people have reached the country from high-risk countries while 84 has achieved low-risk countries. Eighteen has contracted disease through their contacts,” said the broadcast.

The Minister asked the States to carry out extra warnings because the number of omicron infections increased.
